East Barnet is in the London Borough of Barnet. It is a mainly residential north London suburb with a variety of shops, pubs, restaurants and services. It lies adjacent to the M25, A1 and M1, and is situated in the Enfield postal district EN4. From 1894 until 1965, East Barnet was part of the East Barnet Urban District of Hertfordshire. In 1965 the area which formed the East Barnet Urban District was amalgamated with Barnet Urban District, Friern Barnet Urban District, Finchley Borough and Hendon Borough to form what would be known as the new London Borough of Barnet. Allen and Young Ltd carry out all moving services including removals, man and van, storage, packing and house clearance in the East Barnet area.
East Barnet was a local government district in south Hertfordshire between 1863 and 1965 around the town of East Barnet. The district was formed under the Local Government Act 1858 on September 25th, 1863, as the East Barnet Valley Local Government District, and was governed by a local board. Apart from the parish of East Barnet, the local board’s area included surrounding areas of the parishes of Chipping Barnet in Hertfordshire and Enfield, Monken Hadley and South Mimms in Middlesex.
In 1889 the boundary between Hertfordshire and Middlesex was altered by the Local Government Act of 1888, so that East Barnet Valley was entirely in the former county.
